Hola chic@s,

I saw my friend Iván anoche (last night).

We ate some croquetas, smoked some cigarettes indoors and walked his dog Layla.

It had been 5 años since we’d seen each other.

He chatted to me in English 🇬🇧

I chatted to him in Spanish 🇪🇸

Halfway through the evening, he told me he had ‘turned the ham’.

🤨 🤨

The expression in Spanish 👉 “Darle la vuelta al jamón”

The literal translation in Spanish 👉 “To turn the ham”

The metaphorical meaning 👉 “You’re in the second half of life”

Iván had just turned 55.

There’s something very Spanish about turning 55 and comparing yourself to cured meat.

No drama.

No existential crisis.

Just: “Well. We’ve flipped it. Let’s carry on.”

Keep speaking Spanish.

Keep living Spanish.

Un abrazo,

Harrison

I’m not sure I agree with the "not so good part” Iván
