Hola chic@s,
Espero que estƩn bien.
I got my first pedicure today⦠(I never thought Iād write that.)
Now that itās summer (verano), my feet are on full display, which was an opportunity for the women in my life to tell me how disgusting my feet are.
So my girlfriend (novia) dragged me into the local nail salon to get my feet serviced.
A door Iād never walked through before.
A new space.
New rules.
Same nerves.
Spanish has taught me to lean into these moments and embrace the unknown.
I sat down on the worldās most uncomfortable massage chair that began to pulverize my shoulder blades, whilst I dipped my feet into a shallow basin of lukewarm agua š§
The lady and her colleague raised their eyebrows as they figured out what to do with the state of my dirty feet.
She brandished a metal tool and began to scrape the bottom of my feet vigorously, as a mountain (montaƱa) of dead skin began to gather on the floor.
The procedure took about 25 minutes, which, for the most part, was me trying to contain my embarrassment (vergüenza - not embarazada š).
Being a beginner in a new space is uncomfortable because everyone else seems to know the rules. Where to sit. Where to put their feet.
But remember, most people probably arenāt judging you.
Theyāre just getting on with their day.
Todayās mission is called the Nail Salon š
Letās simulate you walking into a new space.
You donāt know the rules, and the Spanish is coming at you fast.
Letās see if you surviveš

Let me know how you get on, and if you have any questions.
My inbox is always open.
Un abrazo grande,

Spanish for living, not just learning

They put two steamers on me. This was a state of emergency.
