Hola chic@s,

I was with my Honduran friend Daniel and his family yesterday 🇭🇳

Apparently there’s a place in Honduras where it rains fish.

I thought they were messing with me at first, but a quick Google Search confirmed it.

It’s called Lluvia de Peces - “Rain of Fish.” 🐟

Only in Latin America.

By the way:

🐟 pez = a fish that’s alive
🐟 pescado = a fish thats dead

peces is the plural form of pez.

So yes… these are live fish we’re dealing with ☔️

Anyway, the whole evening reminded me of something important.

The best moments I’ve had through learning Spanish were never planned.

Years ago I used to work in a co-working space in London. You’d get some real characters come through those doors.

One of them was Daniel 🇭🇳

He worked night shifts as a cleaner and would arrive at 5pm, just as I was clocking off.

We’d spend an hour speaking in English and Spanish together.

- Learning about each other’s cultures.
- Laughing at misunderstandings.
- Helping each other out.

We’ve been friends ever since 🤝

Back then I thought I was just ‘practising my Spanish’.

Looking back now, I realise my world was quietly expanding.

That’s the gift of living Spanish, rather than just learning it.

You become more open to life.

More curious.
More connected.
More human.

Oh, and here’s the authentic Honduran t-shirt they gifted me yesterday 🇭🇳👇

Perfect for cultural appropriation 🙏

Keep getting out there chic@s.

Making mistakes.
Meeting people.
Opening up your world a little each day.

If I can ever support you on your Spanish journey - even if it’s just encouragement - my inbox is always open.

Un abrazo,
Harrison

Language for living, not just learning

P.S - Here’s a list of Honduran Slang. Hondurans refer to themselves as ‘catrachos’ and they’ll love the fact that you know a bit of their slang.

P.P.S - You can purchase the Chat Spanish Insider Handbook (for the price of a London coffee). It’s a collection of 42 real-world Spanish expressions, cultural insights and language patterns picked up through conversations across Spain and Latin America. It will get you sounding less like a textbook and better prepared to connect with the locals.
