Hola chic@s,
Espero que estén bien.
Let me tell you about Richard.
He’s a British Man in his mid-70s who I’ve been coaching for the past few months.
Richard has recently retired and decided to pick up Spanish again.
He had a decent level many moons ago, when he worked with a Spanish company, but a lot of it had been gathering dust.
Now he has a trip to Andalusia coming up later this year, so most of our sessions have focused on conversations.
And they’re messy.
Richard throws in some French words and muddles up the tenses.
But he keeps going.
He laughs. Asks questions and tries again.
And every week, he shows up.
That’s why Richard is so inspiring.
He’s not trying to become the perfect Spanish learner.
He’s using Spanish as a reason to stay curious.
To keep his brain sharp.
Still testing himself.
Still curious.
Still participating.
That’s the Chat Spanish mentality.
Not presenting a polished version of yourself to the world with a big Duo**** streak.
But rather getting into the mud.
Making mistakes.
And sharing the experience with other human beings stumbling forwards alongside you.
Richard is a badass Mfer.
So next time you’re frustrated with your Spanish, feeling stuck, or wondering why you bothered learning it in the first place.
Ask yourself.
What would Richard do?
Well, he’d have a big smile on his face, laugh at himself, and keep going.
Un abrazo,
Harrison
Spanish for living, not just learning
P.S - If Richard’s approach sounds like the kind of Spanish learning you’ve been looking for, I have a few spaces for 1:1 coaching left for the end of the year. Just reply to this email if you’re interested.
We work on your Spanish, of course, but a lot of it is simply two human beings talking, figuring things out and moving forwards together 👊
